Easy Fish Pie

Serves: 4–6 or 6–8 toddler portions | Prep: 15 mins | Cook: 45 mins | Difficulty: Easy
Comfort food classic - family-friendly, freezer-friendly, and full of goodness.

Ingredients:

  • 1kg Maris Piper potatoes, peeled + halved
  • 400ml milk (plus a splash for mash)
  • 25g butter (plus a knob for mash)
  • 25g plain flour
  • 4 spring onions, finely sliced
  • 1 pack fish pie mix (cod, salmon, smoked haddock – approx. 320–400g)
  • 1 tsp Dijon or English mustard
  • ½ pack or small bunch of chives, finely snipped
  • Handful frozen sweetcorn
  • Handful frozen petits pois (baby peas)
  • Handful grated cheddar cheese

Simplified Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C / 180°C fan / Gas 6.
  1. Boil potatoes until tender. Mash with splash of milk + knob of butter. Season.
  1. In another pan, melt 25g butter with flour + spring onions. Stir gently (1–2 mins).
  1. Slowly whisk in 400ml milk. Stir until thickened (3–4 mins).
  1. Take off heat. Add fish mix, mustard, chives, sweetcorn + peas.
  1. Spoon filling into ovenproof dish or ramekins.
  1. Top with mash, sprinkle cheddar on top.
  1. Bake 20–25 mins until golden and bubbling.
    🧊 Can also be frozen before baking.

To Serve With:
  • Steamed green beans or broccoli
  • Baked carrots or peas on the side
  • For toddlers: soft cooked veg fingers or sweet potato mash
